Strong Women, Strong Girls (SWSG) is a group of tightly knit women who volunteer with young girls to help create powerful, and diverse leaders. We spend our time mentoring girls in the Pittsburgh community and hanging out together.

SWSG mentors girls in grades 3-5 in the Pittsburgh area to help them increase their confidence and to inspire them to pursue their passions. Typically, we visit girls at 5 different elementary schools in Pittsburgh and spend 1.5 hours each week mentoring them. Due to the pandemic, we changed this to a weekly 1 hour mentoring session held over Zoom during the afternoon. At the moment, we do not have confirmation on whether mentoring will be online or in person.

Additionally, as a college mentor, you have the opportunity to have a professional mentor, too. We will share more information about the SWSG professional mentorship program once the semester begins!

Aside from mentoring, we also have weekly General Body Meetings and social events throughout the semester.

Sadly, not everyone has the time to mentor because sometimes courses conflict with mentoring times. If this is the case, you can join the advocate program who advocate for our core values. Advocates work with our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Coordinator to help spread awareness and inform our members.
