Synopsis: When individuals live and interact in an environment that is safe, supportive, and connected, they are more likely to develop the social and emotional competencies they need to be successful. This is about being connected to others framed by a sense of belonging. This connection comes with roles and responsibilities.  In order to fully embrace belonging, it is necessary to have an understanding of otherness. We can use this understanding to infuse belonging as an intentional strategy to integrate a prosocial culture and climate that includes values, norms, practices, ways of relating, symbols, and lived experiences into all types of belonging efforts to make them more meaningful, influential, and whole.

Participants will engage in unique methods of inquiry, connection, reflection, and somatic experience.  This will foster and raise new ways to look at familiar things, use different parts of their humanity to express, share, and understand. According to Molly Schenck (Director of Grey Box Collective), in our attempts to try on these ways of communicating, we often surprise ourselves and each other with new discoveries that transcend otherness and move us toward fostering, promoting, and sustaining an ethic of belonging. That's what makes the ethic of belonging the center of power for the beneficial changes we wish to see in our communities (i.e., schools, neighborhoods, business, global, etc.). Insightful learnings from authors, John. A. Powell, Daniel Mate, Ken Samuel, and Staci K. Hines will be used to create spaces where otherness and belonging dialogues can be ignited.
