    PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The purpose of STEP is to prepare incoming freshman students for the transition from high school to the College of Engineering, Computer Science, and Technology (ECST) at California State University, Los Angeles. STEP focuses on reinforcing and developing math skills necessary for lower division major requirements and helping students acclimate to the campus before the start of their first quarter. Students have the opportunity to meet other students pursuing their major, connect with ECST student organizations and faculty, receive general information about the campus, financial aid, academic advisement, and participate in key personal development workshops to help them become more evolved and effective in their academic and personal lives.

    PROGRAM DATES, TIME, AND LOCATION

    Date: July 6 - August 26, 2015 Time: 9:00 a.m - 3:00 p.m. (Monday - Friday) Location: Cal State L.A.

    IS STEP MANDATORY?

STEP 2015 is MANDATORY for ALL incoming freshmen in the College of ECST whose Entry-Level Math (ELM) score places them in Math 89, 90, 91, or Math 104A. Students that are exempt from the ELM will automatically start in Math 104A which would require them to come to STEP. Although the University does not consider Math 104A remedial, it is two math levels below the desired starting point for engineering and computer science majors. If your ELM score places you in Math 104A, you must attend STEP.

    STEP ORIENTATION

You are required to attend a STEP Orientation on Saturday, JUNE 6, 2015 FROM 9:00AM - 2:30PM AT CAL STATE L.A. (Golden Eagle Ballroom I-III). More information is forthcoming. Please make sure to mark your calendar for the STEP Orientation and check your email and voicemail on a regular basis for updates.

REQUIRED CSU PLACEMENT TESTS: ELM AND EPT

ELM scores are required to participate in STEP. We urge you to take the ELM and EPT no later than May 2, 2015 to ensure that we get the scores before the start of STEP. If you are exempt from the ELM and will not take the AP Calculus Exam, you are required to attend STEP. The only way that you will be exempt from STEP is if you take the AP Calculus Exam and obtain a score of 3 or higher.

    REQUIRED: UNOFFICIAL HIGH SCHOOL TRANSCRIPTS

Bring a copy of your most recent UNOFFICIAL high school transcripts to the STEP Orientation on Saturday, June 6, 2015. You may also fax a copy of your unofficial high school transcripts to 323-343-6314 or bring them to our office (E&T Bldg, Room A-127) in person if possible.
