Snelling Connection Co-Editor Application (Due December 9th, 2012)

The Snelling Connection is a bi-yearly newsletter that is published by a class of 4th, 5th, and 6th grade Hancock students. The class is co-taught by two Hamline students who have an interest in Education and/or Journalism. The class meets two days a week, for an hour, at Hancock Elementary School where students partake in roles as photographers, journalists, and illustrators in order to publish each issue of the newsletter. Hamline students interested in Education and/or Journalism will gain incredible first-hand experience in these fields.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
-Teaching a class of 15-20 students (4th, 5th, and 6th grade)
-Bi-weekly lesson planning
-Collaborating with Co-Teacher to teach and plan
-Differentiating material according to students' needs
-Publishing the Snelling Connection Newsletter
-Communicating with members of the Hancock-Hamline Collaboration on a regular basis to be aware of recent collaborative efforts
-Using Adobe InDesign to layout the newsletter
-Distributing the newsletter to Hamline campus
-Attending Hancock-Hamline Collaboration meetings once a month as a representative of Snelling Connection

Qualifications:
-Education minor or co-major and/or Journalism/English/Creative Writing major or minor preferred
-First year, sophomore, or junior status
-Must have excellent organizational and communications skills
-Must be able to work with a diverse group of people
-Must have experience working in a school setting
-Experience with differentiated lesson planning and classroom management is preferred
-Leadership experience is preferred
-Adobe InDesign experience is preferred
