Thank you for volunteering to present a session at TWISTER!  The mission of TWISTER is to inform high school aged young women about possible science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) career paths, by providing opportunities for participants to connect with positive female role models working in STEM fields and to engage in hands-on, real-life STEM activities.

Presenter Information
Participants are scheduled into 4 sessions partly based on their top picks of STEM topics offered. You will most likely be asked to present 1 session.

Expect 15 to 25 participants to attend your session. Power Point or Prezi may be used. Session length is 55 minutes, total divided into:
     • 8-10 minute intro and ice breaker
     • 25-35 minute Hands-on Activity, facilitate an inquiry-based activity relative to your STEM topic
     • 8-10 minute Q & A, debrief, and/or reflection wrap-up

HANDS-ON ACTIVITY: Please describe the hands-on activity you may facilitate.
 This is the part of your session that will have the greatest impact on students. Hands-on activities engage participants in either an individual or team activity. It’s recommended that unless directly related to your session theme, computers be used only as complement to the activity. ASC staff is happy to advise, provide examples and help you determine the best activity.

We encourage presenters to bring their own laptops and adapters to minimize problems with presentation software. The Center's overhead projector systems are VGA.

PLEASE NOTE: If you choose to do a computer lab presentation, students will be using ASC laptops which have a number of programs installed. You are welcome to utilize the programs available on the computers for your presentations, but you will not able to install or download new programming onto the computers. If you'd like more information about the programs available on the ASC laptops, please indicate that here. Students will be able to access the internet.

We do have a limited budget for presentation supplies, such as for copying any handouts or purchasing extra materials. We also have microscopes, if needed.

Thursday, October 22, 2015 - Meet, Greet, Wine and Dine - networking event at Arrington Vineyards. 6:00 to 8:00pm. Join past TWISTER presenters and volunteers for a casual gathering to kick off the TWISTER season. Pick the minds of veteran TWISTER professionals, while enjoying a nice glass of wine on the beautiful lawns of Arrington!

Thursday, January 14, 2016 - TWISTER Presenter and Volunteer Workshop. 6:00 to 8:00pm. The evening will include helpful facilitation and activity tips, tours of rooms, and event logistics. We will also share best practices when working with young women and discuss what hands-on looks like in a session. RSVP's will be sent out closer to the date.

Friday, February 12, 2016 - Prep "Party" at the Adventure Science Center from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. We will be preparing each classroom and the major event space in Jack Wood Hall for TWISTER, on Saturday, February 13th! RSVP's will be sent out closer to the date.
