Berkeley High School Committee Nomination Form 2017-18
Thank you for your interest in serving on one (or more) of the committees that represent the interests and needs of all students and families at Berkeley High School. Please use this form to submit your nomination to serve on these committees, no later than September 22, and plan to come to BHS on the evening of September 13 to introduce yourself to the community at our fall Parent Meeting. Following is a description of the committees:

School Site Council (SSC):

Works with the BHS Principal to review Berkeley High’s educational programs and student achievement data, and supports the development and updating of the school-wide Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA), which is part of the accreditation process at the high school, as approves the School Safety Plan and the BSEP Site Discretionary Plan Budget. The SSC is composed of 8 staff, 4 students, and 4 parents/guardians, as well as alternates, and meets on Tuesday afternoons from 4:00 to 6:00 pm, once monthly in fall, sometimes twice a month in spring. The first SSC Committee meeting is tentatively scheduled to be held on October 10, from 4:00 to 6:00 pm.

The BHS BSEP Site Committee:

Develops a budget for the site discretionary funds that come from the local Berkeley Schools Excellence Program (BSEP), which is about $650,000 each year. The committee reviews the programs that currently receive funding and considers proposals for funding new programs that support student achievement and school goals. The BSEP Committee is composed of 5 staff, 5 students, and 5 parents/guardians or community members, meets on Monday afternoons, once a month in the fall, and sometimes twice a month in the spring. The first BSEP Committee Meeting is tentatively scheduled for Monday, October 23rd, 4:30 - 6:30 PM.

The District BSEP Planning and Oversight (P&O) Committee:

Composed of representatives from across the district, including 4 representatives and two alternates from Berkeley High, the P&O Committee reviews plans and budgets for the $28,000,000 budget funded through BSEP Measure E1. These are District-wide programs, including class size reduction, school libraries, the 4th-8th grade music program, technology, student support, counseling, professional development, program evaluation, public information, translation, and parent outreach. The P&O committee meets twice a month on Tuesday evenings from 7:15 to 9:30 pm. The first meeting of the BSEP P&O Committee is Tuesday, November 14, 7:15 pm to 9:30 pm.
