1. Introduction & Inspiration (15 min)

What is Unreal Engine?

How it’s used in:

Medical training simulators

VR mental health experiences

Anatomy visualization

Live demo: short video examples of Unreal-powered science applications

2. Unreal Engine Basics (20 min)

Overview of interface and layout

What are Levels, Actors, Blueprints?

Lighting, cameras, and materials in a nutshell

Hands-on: spawn and move a 3D object, apply a material, simulate light

3. Let’s Build: A Simple Medical Simulation (45 min)

Build a virtual examination room

Add interactive Blueprints (e.g., “Check blood pressure”)

Trigger educational messages or sounds

Tie into mental health theme: ambient music, breathing prompts, safe spaces

4. Scientific Visualization with RealityCapture & Gaussian Splatting (30 min)

Why this matters for science:

Accurate 3D scans of real-world specimens, anatomy models, or lab equipment

Visual fidelity + realism = better teaching tools

a. Intro to Photogrammetry with RealityCapture:

What is photogrammetry?

Step-by-step: taking photos, creating a model, exporting to Unreal

Live demo: 3D scan of a medical tool or object (pre-recorded or live)

b. Gaussian Splatting for Real-Time Visualization:

What is it, and why it’s revolutionary in 2025

Perfect for:

Digitizing museum specimens

Capturing organic shapes (e.g., skin, tissue, fossils)

Demo: viewing a Gaussian splat model in Unreal

Comparison: traditional mesh vs. splatting

Optional hands-on:

Try importing a sample scan

Visualize it with simple lighting and camera movement

5. Showcase & Discussion (15–20 min)

Invite a few participants to show their project

How Unreal can be a bridge between research and the public

Brainstorm: how to visualize your scientific field in 3D?

6. What’s Next? Resources & Community (10–15 min)

Free tools & licenses:

Unreal Engine

RealityCapture student access

Learn more:

Epic Developer Community

Free Unreal courses on VR, Blueprints, MetaHumans

Optional: join STN Unreal/VR group or follow-up workshop

Language: polish
Maximum number of participants: 15
