Aboriginal Studies (no charge): Students will study policies, legislation, conflict, and cultural change as they impact Canada, and Alberta specifically. This course cannot be used towards the graduation requirement of 10 option credits.
Aquatics Leadership ($300): Water safety and lifesaving skills are essential in preventing drowning and ensuring public safety in aquatic environments. The Aquatic Leadership and Lifesaving course is designed for students who are passionate about water safety, emergency response, and leadership in aquatic settings. This course provides a unique opportunity to gain nationally recognized certifications through the Lifesaving Society, equipping students with the skills necessary for careers in lifeguarding, swim instruction, and emergency response. Pre-requisites: 15 years of age, Swim 400m continuously or hold a bronze medallion certificate. Students level of swimming will be assessed prior to being accepted into this program. **This is considered a program of choice and thus the fee must be paid within the first 2 weeks of the course.
Art (3 credit - $25, 5 credit - $40: This course provides students with a broad exposure to art, focusing on drawing, painting, and sculpture. Art 30 students work individually with the teacher to plan an individual program based on the student’s area(s) of interest.
Athletic Development ($300) Based on the Long Term Athlete Development model (LTAD), students focus on their strength and conditioning training while also learning about sports psychology and nutrition. **This is considered a program of choice and thus the fee must be paid within the first 2 weeks of the course.
Child Care Level 1 Certificate ($50): Students will investigate the roles and responsibilities of a childcare worker, and develop communication, observation, and skills for guiding the behavior of children aged 0 to 6. In addition to earning 5 credits in Early Learning and Childcare, students can complete additional credits through practicums, volunteerism, YMCA pre-employment courses, and Childcare First Aid. Upon successful completion of these courses, students will be a Level 1 Early Childhood Educator.
Construction (3 credit - $45, 5 credit - $80): Students will cut, shape, and create projects from wood.
Cosmetology (3 credit - 35, 5 credit $65): Taught in a salon setting, our cosmetology program is designed to operate as though students are ‘on the job’, where they will be able to create, design & expand their artistic side. Through hands on learning, this course teaches students the foundational skills of Hairstyling, as well as current industry trends & techniques. Students will perform practical & theory assignments while learning about the salon business and its career opportunities. Students who want to pursue a career in Hairstyling or Barbering can make a plan to finish their technical training for both First & Second Period of the Alberta Hairstylist-Barber pathway while still in High School, working towards receiving their diploma.
Creative Writing (No Charge): Students will cultivate their creativity and communication skills to become engaged thinkers about the media they create and participate in, and awareness of their role as ethical citizens with an entrepreneurial spirit in writing and publishing.
Design Studies (3 credit - $25, 5 credit - $40): Combining credits from Photography, Computers, and Robotics courses, students are now truly able to customize their learning to their needs. This course allows students to take credits from a wide variety of areas, such as Photo, Robotics, Design, Networking, Video, Programming, Finance, Marketing, and more! You can select it once on the form, but if you also request it on the RAC (Request a Course) form you can take this course TWO times in a year.
Drama ($20): The emphasis of this course is on developing and enriching creativity, while introducing body movement, awareness improvisation, and group concentration. Students will also explore directing and technical theater.
Esthetics (3 credit - $40, 5 credit $70): Unleash your artistry & creativity in the world of Esthetics! Learn all about skincare, makeup artistry, nail services, facials, spa treatments and much more! Students will receive hands on training, while learning the essentials of performing many trending salon & spa services, as well as the basics. As the saying goes "Beauty comes from within", use your talents to beautify the outside as well.
Fabrication (3 credit - $75, 5 credit - $120): Students learn the basics of welding and move into more advanced project work as their skills progress.
Foods (3 credit - $65, 5 credit - $110): This course blends commercial and domestic culinary training. Students will have the opportunity to plan, prepare, and serve group meals.
French (no charge): Students will work on listening, reading, speaking, and writing French, within the contexts of shopping, activities, vacations, and fine arts
Mechanics (3 credit $45, 5 credit $80): Students learn the basics of mechanics and move into more advanced project work as their skills progress.
Open Studies (no charge)- Health Sciences, Psychology, Forensics, Financial Studies, Law: Open Studies is a dynamic and flexible high school course designed to empower students with the freedom to explore a variety of academic disciplines. This course offers a unique opportunity for students to tailor their learning experience by selecting from a diverse range of subjects, including Health Sciences, Psychology, Forensics, Financial Studies, Law, and more.
Outdoor Education ($60): This exciting course will transform Alberta's beautiful landscapes into your classroom. Through hands-on learning and outdoor adventures, you'll develop essential skills for a lifetime of outdoor recreation and environmental stewardship
Spanish (no charge): Hola! Open a world of communication and culture by learning Spanish, a language spoken by millions! The Spanish Language and Culture Program is intended for students who are beginning their study of Spanish language and culture in senior high school.
Yoga ($20): Through movement and mindfulness, students will develop stress management skills, injury
reduction strategies, improve flexibility and make improvements to their overall wellbeing.
