55% of youth in Long Beach are living in poverty. We know that poverty damages health because it forces people to live in less healthy environments, limits resources, causes chronic stress, and drives health risk-behaviors. KGA's recent research report also shows alarming rates of depression among youth that could be linked to other mental health and health related issues such as alcohol abuse. While we see a severe need for healthcare and support services in our community, we are also seeing a huge gap in access. In the face of being under-resourced, youth in Long Beach are fighting to get Wellness Centers at their high schools! Wellness Centers allow us to address the health and mental health needs of students at school so that they can focus on learning and achieve their full academic potential.
YES! I support KGA's YOUth at the C.O.R.E Wellness Center Campaign.
