Thanks so much for your interest in CHS Ultimate! Completing this form ensures that you will be added to our contact list. You’ll start receiving updates for the new school year in mid-August. (Note: if you have multiple players who are interested please complete a separate form for each player.)
About CHS Ultimate:
CHS Ultimate serves players in middle and high school in Maplewood/South Orange. We welcome all levels and experience.
When does it happen?:
Ultimate is both a fall and spring sport:
- The fall season is more developmental and inclusive — a great time for students to try it out, build skills, and be part of the team community.
- The spring season is our primary competitive season, with tournaments, travel events, and a higher level of commitment. Most teams are formed during the fall, so participating early helps ensure a spot in the spring.
Time commitment:
- Practices are typically held 3–5 times per week after school, depending on the team level and season.
- Fall is more flexible, while spring includes weekend tournaments and travel.
- Students can choose to participate in fall only or both fall and spring.
Registration and requirements:
Because Ultimate is a club sport, players do not need to register through MMS, SOMS, or CHS Athletics and no physical exam is required. We handle sign-ups and communication independently.
Cost Overview:
CHS Ultimate is entirely volunteer, run by a dedicated board of directors, and parents. We receive no financial support from the school district, so all expenses covering coaching, field rentals, insurance, and travel are funded through player dues, donations, and community fundraising. Costs vary depending on each team's schedule and tournament participation. Below are estimated dues for each program and season:*
- Middle School (MS): $50–$450, depending on travel and schedule
- Open/Sparkle Motion (HS) – Fall Season: $210–$300
- Open/Sparkle Motion (HS) – Spring Season: $800–$1,300 (includes hotel and travel costs for multiple overnight tournaments)
Balancing other activities:
Many of our athletes are also involved in other programs like marching band, cross country, or theater. While spring can get busy, especially with overlapping schedules, we try to be flexible and encourage open communication to make it work. Fall is an excellent time to explore how Ultimate fits alongside other interests.
Community & Recognition:While technically a club, our high school athletes are celebrated right alongside varsity teams — you’ll see our seniors’ banners flying on the fences at Underhill and Valley Street. You can also find more information on

*Note: These are general estimates and may vary year-to-year based on tournament selection and team needs. Financial assistance is also available for families who need it.
