Calling Barnsley - Creative Writing Workshops

The award-winning theatre company LUNG are creating a phone box installation. The phone box will hold stories made with and about the people of Barnsley. Alongside the phone box, we are delivering free creative writing workshops. These will take place between January and March 2025. We are looking for groups to apply for this opportunity.

About LUNG

LUNG are Creative Associates at the National Theatre and partners at The Lowry. As a documentary theatre company, LUNG specialise in taking the every day stories and creating crafted, entertaining and accessible dramas. 

The Workshop 

The Calling Barnsley Workshop will be a fun, enjoyable session open to people from all abilities. An experienced LUNG facilitator will guide every participant through the process of writing a real-life story in their own words.  Participants will only be invited to write about topics they want to. We will be led by individuals voices and passions.

Through these workshops, LUNG will be creating a 'Phone book of Barnsley', sharing the stories people have written in the workshops. Any participant that is happy for their work to be shared will have their story added to this collection.

The workshop will last 90 minutes (timings can be adapted upon request) 

How to get involved

Fill out this form by Monday 25th November. We will let you know if you have been selected by 2nd December and then work with you to arrange the session.

'Calling Barnsley' is commissioned by Barnsley Council in partnership with Barnsley College.
