At this year’s Town Meeting there are two Articles on the Warning which propose changes to Town Meeting for future years. Your VOTE COUNTS and your participation in our town decisions are important. The town needs voters of all ages to have an opportunity to participate in how our town is run and managed.
Article #8 “Shall the town change the day of its annual meeting to the third day preceding the first Tuesday in March pursuant to 17 V.S.A. § 2640(b)?” This Article encourages greater participation in Town Meeting by community members challenged by a Tuesday morning meeting due to work and family demands. Is there an alternative day or time that would make it easier for more residents to participate?
Article #9 “Shall the registered voters of Greensboro, Vermont elect its officers by Australian ballot?”
This Article enables those who can’t attend Town Meeting at all due to work commitments, health issues, transportation challenges or travel, to have a voice in electing our Selectboard members. Ballots would need to be turned in either on or before the official state Town Meeting Day. The Australian ballot proposed is to vote for elected officials only and does not replace the need for Town Meeting to discuss all the Articles on the Warning. Town Meeting will continue to be one of the ways for our community to come together and make decisions about our town.
