The People’s Powerhouse was formed in response to the need for more diverse thinkers and voices at the centre of devolution and decision making in the North of England. 

We create safe spaces where people can speak for themselves, come together to share, learn and support one another, and build collective power rooted in lived experience.

 This convention asks: How do we create a North that works for everyone? Northern communities are drawing on deep wells of fortitude at a moment when devolution is reaching for transformative heights. Set in Scarborough, a town shaped by over 400 years of healing waters and collective gathering, this event explores what is bubbling up from below and what is possible from above. We will share ordinary people’s expert and lived experiences of life in the North; learn from and be emboldened by ideas around community ownership of civic and public assets; and collaborate to strengthen resilience for the year ahead.

We’ll be joined by renowned practitioners, decision makers, and thought leaders from local communities and organisations; as we explore connection, culture and collective power. We will trace how local ‘wellsprings’ of community innovation can become the tide that lifts all Northern boats.

 This gathering is a space to reflect on how well things are flowing, what’s working, and how we celebrate – and strengthen – what already sustains us.
