Traits of a community space
- Physical spaces that are open to the public full time or intermittently. Entry for programs can be free, paid, or a mix.
- Spaces that have thematic focuses (eg: across arts/culture/science etc.), or a general community-focus with inclusion of diverse participants in group activities.
- Spaces governed or stewarded by a community group, nonprofit, municipality, non-profit institution etc., not primarily driven by private commercial interest.
- Stable, recurring presence in a location and not pop-up or temporary installations.
- Hosts or organises diverse civic functions.

- Commercial venues/halls whose sole purpose is to rent space out and do not participate in or host any community events do not qualify.
- Residential spaces and schools (eg: arts) that do not have regular programmes or events with public participation are difficult to consider as community spaces.

Verification
- The space must have its own web presence or coverage on existing websites (news, blogs, articles etc.)
- The space must be listed on Open Street Maps or Google Maps
- Presence on walled social media platforms (eg: Instagram etc.) that aren't accessible via open web are difficult to verify. *
