Students will be automatically registered for Language Arts and World Cultures (Social Studies) for their 6th grade year. 
*In accordance with House Bill 3, all middle school students must complete one fine arts course during grades 6, 7, or 8.

Fine Arts Elective Choice
Students select two elective courses for their 6th grade year in addition to academic and physical education. There are fees associated with specific elective courses. Families in need of assistance with any associated fees can discuss options with campus administration and/or counselors. 

In accordance with House Bill 3, all middle school students must complete one fine arts course during grades 6. 

In order to maximize student achievement, students in need of academic assistance may be assigned to an academic intervention class in lieu of an elective choice. As always, electives are subject to change or cancellation. Budget constraints may further affect RRISD schedules and class availability.

Important Notes—Please Read Carefully:   While every attempt will be made to honor students’ elective requests, budget and enrollment considerations may affect course availability and offerings.  Change of mind requests will not be permitted after August 2024. A student who does not choose alternates will have alternates selected by his/her counselor.  Elective courses are subject to change or cancellation. 

The choices students make during the pre-registration process determine the master schedule of course offerings available. The master schedule is designed to maximize student opportunities and minimize scheduling conflict. Therefore, the selection of courses by the student is a commitment to put forth effort to successfully complete those courses.

Teaching assignments, new hires, and the master schedule are based on student requests. It is important students stay in the classes they choose in order to keep classes balanced.
