Creating Welcoming and Safe Environments
Mesa Union School District has made significant improvements in the cleanliness and maintenance of its facilitates to include Prop 39 Energy Savings projects that resulted in the replacement of interior lighting, thermostats, existing air conditioner units. In addition, through E-Rate Funding the District was able increase its internet capabilities through the installation of new fiber optic cable, and internet access points within its facilities. The District also allocated local funding to replace the on site waste management system, replace carpet in designated classrooms and other general maintenance activities.

The Impacts of Parent Engagement
Ongoing research shows that family engagement in schools improves student achievements, reduces absenteeism and restores parents' confidence in their children's education. Students with involved parents or other caregivers earn higher grades, score higher on state assessments, and have better social skills and show improved behavior.

During the Thomas Fire event the District and School Communication tools were essential in updating parents about school closures, shelter locations, and ways to support members of our community impacted by the fire.
