Organizational Sign-On: Support Diane Wilson's Demands to Dow Chemical

On March 2, 2026, Diane Wilson, 78-year-old fourth-generation Texas shrimper, Goldman Environmental Prize recipient, and Executive Director of San Antonio Bay Estuarine Waterkeeper, began a hunger strike and 24/7 encampment outside Dow Chemical's Seadrift, Texas facility.

She is protesting two threats to San Antonio Bay and the Gulf Coast community: Dow's unprecedented request to eliminate the only existing state permit limit on plastic pellet discharge into Texas waterways, and its plans to build four experimental nuclear reactors at the same site using a design never built anywhere in the United States.

By adding your organization's name, you are signing on to a letter to Dow CEO Jim Fitterling in support of two demands:

  • Dow must withdraw its current permit application, and instead commit to zero discharge of plastics (pellets, powder, and flakes) from its Seadrift facility, incorporating that commitment into a new permit application.
  • Dow must cancel all plans to build nuclear reactors at the Seadrift site and withdraw its construction permit application from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
