Climate Smart St. James is organizing four field trips for community members to learn about services for the collection of food scraps, compostable and biodegradable materials currently offered by some communities for their residents. As part of the ongoing efforts of Climate Smart St. James to reduce the amount of waste that is currently being hauled to area landfills through its current garbage service, the group is working with the Southwest RSDP (Regional Development Partnership) of the UMN to develop a feasibility study that could inform future decisions regarding offering a service of organic waste collection within Watonwan County, perhaps starting with a pilot program in St. James. These field trips will provide community members the chance to see firsthand some of the currently operating programs and become better informed about the challenges and opportunites of establishing a program locally.
The four planned field trips include visits to these sites:
You may sign up below for as many of the field trips as you wish. Please indicate if you would like to carpool and/or be a driver to the field trips. Tentative agendas for each day will be emailed to participants prior to the field trip to give you a schedule for the day and meeting points if you prefer to drive yourself.
Please note the sign-up deadline for each field trip - we may not be able to accommodate carpooling for those who show up at the last minute. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
