WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
1.Preference given to non-traditional age students (age 25 or older). This scholarship is not intended for recent high school graduates attending college for the first time.
2. Candidate must be pursuing college level studies at an accredited college, university or vocational school.
3. Candidate must be a resident of Kodiak.
4. Candidate must list their most current GPA, communicate a defined educational goal, and specify when they intends to reach their goal.
5. Candidate should demonstrate commitment the chosen program of study.
6. Candidate should demonstrate active involvement in community activities.
7. Candidate should indicate financial need.
8. Preference given to AAUW members or children of AAUW members.
Candidates must agree that should they be awarded a scholarship and decide not to attend school that they will notify the AAUW Scholarship Committee Chair as soon as possible (by August 1, 2025) so that effort can be made to award another qualified candidate.
AWARD RECIPIENT REQUIREMENTS
AAUW scholarship recipients will be required to attend the last AAUW meeting of the year in May 2025 to meet the members of the local group and tell us about their academic and career goals. If no meeting is held, we will share your written remarks with the group by email. We also request that scholarship recipients staff the AAUW table at the Kodiak Island Scholarship Fair in February to promote the opportunity to prospective applicants. Other volunteer tasks, such as assisting with the AAUW Bazaar, will be offered as well.
