This summer we are encouraging educators across Massachusetts to join us in a community read of If You Only Knew, by Emily Francis. Kirkus review remarked that "Connection, concern, and vulnerability warm every page" of this slim, readable collection of letters from an ML/ESOL teacher to her students.
"Written with passion and a visceral commitment to her students, If
You Only Knew: Letters from An Immigrant Teacher, reflects the journey and
experiences of Emily Francis, an immigrant and unaccompanied minor who travels
from Guatemala to the USA to become a teacher." (PR By The Book review)
During July, we hosted 2 book club meetings to discuss the book, and invited participants to draft and share their own "Connecting Stories," similar to the letters that
comprise the book. Next in August, we will be joined by the author, Emily Francis, who will share her experience and answer our questions.
We welcome you to join us - even if you weren't a part of our previous discussions and/o haven't yet read the book - please fill out the form below.
Visit with the author - Thursday, August 13, 2026 3:30-4:30pm (on Zoom)
