There are three basic ways of taking part in BackyardBio!
1. Share what you find on social media with
#backyardbio - snap a pic of local wildlife of all kinds, and show your class in action exploring their schoolyards, backyards or local nature areas
2. The Seek and INaturalist apps! Seek is the go to tool for learning about local species. Download the app at
https://www.inaturalist.org/pages/seek_app , snap photos and learn more about wildlife near you while gaining kid friendly incentives for more discoveries. Perfect for ages 5-13!
INaturalist is more in depth, and provides the opportunity to contribute your class observations to a global database for real citizen science! Check it out and join our project at
https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/backyardbio-2023 - best for students 13+ and classroom teachers only for younger groups. All submissions shared here will be linked so you can see what local wildlife looks like around the world!
3. Connect with eachother! Set up a video call with your partnered classrooms! Make flipgrid videos highlighting local species. Challenge eachother to find more kinds of creature. Make a google sheet to track findings. There's no limit on how you can share your love of nature globally with one another
