Roots Farm Growing Practices
Roots Farms is grounded in principles of environmental sensitivity. Our growing methods include using integrated animal systems, meaning our livestock are rotated in fields and pastures for insect control, tilling and fertilizing virtually eliminating the need for gas powered implements. We then use wood chips to heavily mulch, a permaculture method that decreases the need for fertilizer and irrigation. Our wood chips come from a tree-removal companies; this no-cost amendment provides organic biomass that enriches our soil as well as closes the consumer loop. Soil cultivated with heavy mulch shows increased nutrient levels and is full of beneficial organisms, including mycorrizae and other fungi, and earthworms. It also helps control weeds. We also use soil blocks to help reduce our use of plastic. We adhere to OMRI growing standards.
