The elephant named Gajendra was a devotee of Vishnu in his previous birth. When a crocodile caught hold of Gajendra's leg in a pond, he cried out to Lord Vishnu for help and took refuge in the Lord. At that time his spiritual knowledge of his previous life was awakened and he composed a wonderful Gajendra Moksha Stotra. Immediately Lord Vishnu appeared and killed the crocodile, protected him and granted salvation to Gajendra.

This incident is a symbol of human life. Like the elephant, we human beings are also suffering due to desire (crocodile) in the ocean (pond) of this world and we should take refuge in God.

Gajendra Moksha Stotra is a beautiful stotra of Bhagwatam which has everything – the nectar of Geeta, the essence of Bhagwatam, the divine qualities of God and each word has such a deep meaning that each one must read it.
