We are delighted that you are making preparations for your child's Holy Baptism at Grace Cathedral. In the tradition of the Episcopal Church, baptism is full initiation by water and the Holy Spirit, into the Christian faith and life. We give thanks for parents who support their children's relationships with God.
With this online registration form, you will provide information about the infant or child who will be baptized, the parents, and godparents (if any). The baptismal candidate must already be born in order to be registered. You will also select an date and time for baptism. We will use this information to prepare materials and to communicate with you, and this information is never shared or sold. Because the church record of a baptism is a historical record, we try to make sure it is as accurate as possible.
Registration will close 4-6 weeks prior to the date of the baptism. Instruction materials will be emailed to you approximately one month before the baptism.
*Note: In signing up for your child's baptism at Grace Cathedral, you will be added to three of our weekly email lists: Family Ministries, Cathedral Highlights, and Congregation. This way you won't miss out on any of the classes, special events and other opportunities offered at and through the Cathedral. If you don't wish to receive them in the future, you can opt out anytime after the first message.
*Participation in a 3-hour preparation meeting is required for parents and recommended for godparents. We meet from 8:45 a.m.-noon on the Saturday morning before the baptism.
People often ask us about about the cost of baptism. It's both free and priceless. Christianity is mysterious. Nothing is more costly than living into the sacrament of Holy Baptism; paradoxically, Baptism is also God's free gift of love. We hope you will be inspired, have a grateful heart, and give generously--but only you and God know what kind of gift is meaningful for your family. We hope you will make a pledge and become a regular member of our community! Please know that Grace Cathedral has almost no endowment, and relies on annual financial gifts to support its many missions, including your baptism preparation, the sacred space and glorious music of worship, as well as family ministries such as Godly Play, the Christmas pageant, and the family retreat.
If you have questions, please call. We're always happy to hear from you. Don't wait for the baptism: come and worship with us this week!
