Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. (ΑΦΑ) is the first intercollegiate fraternity established by African American men. Founded on December 4, 1906, on the campus of Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, Alpha Phi Alpha has initiated over 185,000 men into the organization and has been open to men of all races since the 1940s. The aims of the Fraternity are manly deeds, scholarship and love for all mankind.
Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Kappa Delta Lambda chapter was chartered in Lansing, MI on May 26, 1972. To date, the Kappa Delta Lambda Chapter maintains a strong hold on the Fraternity’s motto of “First of all, servants of all, we shall transcend all.”
The KDL Foundation, Inc. was established by members of the Kappa Delta Lambda chapter in 2002 in their efforts to award the academic achievements and support the higher educational endeavors of youth in the greater Lansing area. The KDL Foundation, Inc.'s mission includes educational programming, implementation of community improvement projects in addition to providing financial assistance to youth in the greater Lansing area, who are in pursuit of higher education at a college or university.
Scholarship Eligibility Requirements:
Must be a graduating senior at a Greater Lansing area high school.
Student must possess a minimum GPA of 3.0
Must plan to attend a college or university
Award Details:
Multiple $1,000 scholarships will be offered
Additional Requirements:
1. Copy of college/university acceptance letter
2. Copy of official high school transcript
3. One-Page Typed Resume
4. Typed Short Answer Responses (each essay response is not
to exceed 750 words, double-spaced, 12 pt. font, 1-inch margins)
5. Letter of Recommendation
6. Headshot Photo of the Recipient (If applicant is
selected, photo will be published in the 2025 Black & Gold Scholarship
