Access Living's Economic Justice group "People over Profit" is hosting our first event. Disabled people face many barriers to forming relationships and marriage. When people with disabilities that receive benefits get married they are at risk of losing their benefits. We know that benefits are essential to sustaining economic mobility. This event will provide the opportunity to learn more about what does advocacy, coalition building and support look like for forming relationships and eliminating barriers to love.
This event will take place at Access Living (115 W Chicago) on February 13th from 1pm-5pm. The first part of this event will include a speaking panel of activists, organizers, and who will talk about their expereince in relationships and also have a Q & A with audience members. The next portion of the event will be a film screening of the Hulu film
"Patrice". The film "Patrice" explores the dynamics of a disabled couple exploring their options to keep their benefits in the pursuit of marraige. We will have a film talkback with the stars of the film Patrice and Gary.
On February 14th POP will be hosting our Disability Prom Party from 4pm-7pm. There will be light snacks and sweets and we look forward to celebrating Valentines Day with our community. We hope to see you there!
