Job Description: The Shift Lead is responsible for overseeing daily operations of Scouts and the Outposts during their assigned shift, ensuring smooth operations and optimal team performance. Key duties include supervising staff, delegating tasks, monitoring operations, and addressing any issues that arise. The Shift Lead will ensure safety protocols are followed, delegate duties as needed, and provide support to the Scout team. Strong communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills are essential to maintaining a productive and positive work environment.


Essential Duties + Responsibilities:

  • Shift Lead is responsible for ensuring the overall operational success of the shift and acts as the first point of contact for all Beach Scouts for the shift

  • Assist with classes as needed, including but not limited to paddle boarding, surfing,  fishing, snorkeling, or pulling a seine net 

  • Delegate tasks, actively communicating and leading other Scouts

  • Flexibility to adapt plans based on weather or other unforeseen circumstances

  • Utilize interpersonal communication skills with beachgoers (kids and adults), public safety officials, beach vendors, local businesses, and county staff 

  • Ability to give clear, engaging instructions and encourage participation in activities

  • Address any issues that arise during the shift, such as customer complaints, employee conflicts, or operational disruptions.

  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and procedures

  • Act as the first point of contact for all Beach Scouts and Experts and Destin-Fort Walton Beach staff

  • Ensure a positive visitor experience by preparing for classes, engaging parents and participants, assisting Experts, and performing gear maintenance

  • Actively participate in ongoing training specific to general destination knowledge, Little Adventures, and technology; disseminate information to Beach Scouts

  • Operate county vehicles, including but not limited to sprinter vans and trailers, as part of assigned shifts. Responsibilities include safe and efficient vehicle operation, ensuring proper loading and unloading, and performing routine vehicle inspections to maintain safety and compliance

Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years or older

  • Valid Driver's license

  • Valid Florida shoreline fishing license (free for residents) or Florida saltwater fishing license

  • Must be able to pass a swim test

  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 35lbs

  • Must be able to handle and work with live marine animals

  • Must be able to work long hours in extreme outdoor conditions
