Have you ever tested working without Quicktime on your PC?

Either by working with native camera sources like R3D, AVCHD or Avid media files or by comparing a project with just a few clips: QuickTime vs MXF or MP4

I tried but didn't notice much difference

QuickTime on PC is:

Fine, I never have a problem

Usually ok, I notice an occasional, less than 5x a day glitch.

It's slow and buggy but it's the format I have to work in.

I usually transcode to a non Quicktime format like MXF or MP4 before starting to edit

Usually ok, but as the project becomes more complex, I get more glitches, crashes and slowdowns.
