When: The AAC/AF Climb the Hill event will take place September 18-20, 2019 in Washington, D.C.
Why: The special places where we recreate cannot speak for themselves. Climb the Hill gives us a powerful platform to represent the values, needs, and concerns of our climbing community to the policy and lawmakers who hold the keys to the future of our public lands. Climb the Hill educates Congressional members, policymakers, and top land managers on the importance of public lands, outdoor recreation, and improved climbing management. It is also an opportunity for climbers to learn from each other and become a stronger community of advocates.
This year, AAC and AF are striving to create a comprehensive and equitable narrative around access to our climbing crags. These efforts are being guided by a Task Force comprised of national leaders within the climbing community who are focused on Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) practices as it relates to the outdoors. The Task force is helping AAC and AF develop a program that highlights the voices of underrepresented communities throughout Climb the Hill.
Who: We are seeking individuals who share these same values and who can make a strong contribution to our Climb the Hill event. Specifically, we are looking for climbers with backgrounds in JEDI and/or climbing, recreation, natural resource policy and/or a strong desire to learn. If you are unsure if this applies to you but have interest, we encourage you to fill the application out anyways.
Thank you for your interest!
