Free host housing will also be available on a limited basis for traveling buddies or Practitioners..

Our camp is inspired by the great work of the late Dr. Karyn Purvis, Dr. David Cross, and the Karyn Purvis Institute of Child Development at TCU, Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI®). This intervention model has been applied successfully in a variety of contexts, and with many children for whom other interventions have failed.

The Rooted Families Rooted Communities Camp uses the TBRI® model to emphasize the integration of the following principles:
• Empowering Principles (felt safety, nutrition, hydration, sensory processing and self-regulation)
• Connecting Principles (attachment, healthy touch, engagement strategies and playful interaction)
• Correcting Principles (life value terms and IDEAL response)

The ultimate goal of our camp is to help families and children develop meaningful connections with one another and learn to understand and meet needs. Learning self-regulation skills will allow children to not only survive but ultimately thrive at home and in life.

Expectations for Buddies, Family Coaches and Group Leaders:
  • Attend a 90 min. online training in May. You will receive a sign-up link after your application has been approved. (any needed TBRI training is in addition to this)
  • Attend in-person Camp Training and Volunteer Meeting: Tuesday, June 17th 2:30-5pm.
  • Attend Family Camp all 3 1/2 days: June 17, 5:00-7:30pm, June 18-20 8am-3:30pm.
  • Use TBRI® principles to guide and encourage your assigned camper (s) and/or families.
  • Background check is required with applications for volunteers over the age of 18 at the time of Family Camp.
  • Ministry safe sexual abuse prevention training must be completed 30 days prior to camp.
  • After we receive your application, a Rooted Families Team member will contact you to schedule a short phone interview.
