Is the Vashon Health Care District spending the levy money wisely?
History
In 2019, Vashon Island residents voted to create the Vashon health Care District (VHCD) which would tax islanders so that "we could identify and prioritize unmet healthcare needs." The VHCD website, history. The measure passed with 71% percent of voters in favor of the proposition.
The VHCD was subsidizing SeaMar to make sure the clinic would stay on the island, but SeaMar is now independent of the VHCD.
Current use of the levy money
The Vashon Health Care District is using our levy money to:
1. Bring Dispatch Health-a mobile urgent care service which does house calls-to the island starting in October. They will cover evenings and weekends in eight hour shifts 365 days a year.
2. Cover the full cost for anyone who is uninsured who uses Dispatch Health.
3. Augment the Mobile Integrated Health program run by Vashon Fire and Rescue
4. VHCD is proposing to fund a "significant expansion of behavioral health services for island children and youth" The VHCD website
