In support of this we reference the Professional Standards Authority in its publication ‘Fit and Proper? Governance in the Public Interest (para2.1)“In our recent work we have been told by a small number of former chairs and members that they have not felt themselves 'responsible' for their organisation's errors or failures. Clearly they are.”
We therefore request that the GMC find other ways to raise the money for costs. This could include a comprehensive salary review of GMC executives and their common practice of providing private healthcare to their employees. We do not believe this order should be paid by hard-pressed and hard-working doctors throughout the UK. Many will be paying twice if they are allowed to do this. We had the foresight to see it was a gross error at the start. We all funded Team Hadiza to successfully appeal the high court decision.
We remain also in sympathy with Jack’s family BUT this decision was clearly of the GMC’s making so the responsibility is entirely on them to fairly sort this out.
