October 2019 Natural Mystery
Our October Natural Mystery comes from the banks of the Connecticut River just outside of Northfield, Massachusetts, but the species that left these marks is common in Minnesota as well. The question is "Who?" As a bonus, tell us "What specific part(s) of the body made these marks?"

An ideal answer will identify the animal to species, note which specific part(s) of the animal's body made these marks (including the side or sides of the body, if applicable), explain how you arrived at your answer, and explain how you eliminated other possibilities. It is, after all, a raccoon until proven otherwise. Sharing your logic and reasoning will help others benefit from your process.
