2019 Summer Field School Registration

The Field School is a Beginning Farmer Training Program for farmers in Northeast TN and Southwest VA. Our mission is to provide a comprehensive overview of farm options for new and beginning farmers interested in starting or expanding small and mid-scale operations in the region.

New this year, we are splitting the Field School into two programs: the Winter Business Intensive and the Summer Field School. The WBI will consist of 9 classes on business planning, finances, and marketing, with the intent that students complete a comprehensive business plan by the end of the course. Summer Field School will focus on on-farm workshops where students can gain new ideas, learn different production methods and network with experienced farmers.

Summer Field School workshops will be $15 per workshop. If you register and pay upfront, there are discounts available for purchasing 4 or 8 workshops. Signing up in advance for 4 workshops will be $55 and registering to attend all 8 workshops will be $100. Space is limited, so you are encouraged to register up front for the workshops.

The USDA defines a "farm" as any place from which $1,000 or more of agricultural products were produced and sold, or normally would have been sold, during the year.
