FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

How do I know which course to sign up for?
Choose the course that occurs during the time of the school year when you are the least busy. If
possible, sign up for a course that is not at the same time as a sport, a play, a school overnight trip, or
a retreat that will make you absent. Coming to every single class during your course is important.

Do I need to take the ACT before taking the course?
No. The first class of every course will include a full-length ACT, scored just like a real ACT, so students
will be able to see their baseline scores and their strengths and weaknesses. It is fine to take the ACT
prior to the course, but not a requirement. The most important time to sign up is during the time of year
when you are least busy.

How many times should I take the ACT?
You should take the ACT early and often. Take it as many times as you can. Send your score to your
high school every time you take it. You don’t need to send it to colleges until after you’ve already
earned the score you want them to see. Every time you take the ACT, it is good practice, and you
never know which will be your best testing day. At the very least, take it twice your junior year and
once your senior year. If you can take it more than that, even better!

Should I take the ACT (No Writing) or the ACT Plus Writing?
This depends on the colleges you will apply to. If you think you may submit an application to a college
that requires a Writing score, sign up for the Writing. Otherwise, just take the ACT (No Writing). You
can check which colleges require Writing at actstudent.org/writing. Many colleges do not require it.
