Join the Black Resilience Photo Event, curated by The OG Theory. We will gather in Crown Heights, Brooklyn Saturday November 7th and Wednesday November 11th from 1-3pm to express what Black resilience looks like with your personal style. Those participating in this creative exercise are asked to wear white, black, or both. These images will be a scene in a short film called FIGHTING DARK. The central question in FIGHTING DARK is "What have you learned from Black resilience?".
FIGHTING DARK is a Black Gotham Experience (BGX) film co-produced by Kamau Ware and Hopi Noel Morton, commissioned by The Shed to highlight racial violence and Black resilience in New York City.
BGX creates media at the intersection of scholarship and aesthetics that illustrates the impact of the African Diaspora missing from collective consciousness as well as the public square. FIGHTING DARK is inspired by Howardena Pindell’s latest exhibition at The Shed, Rope/Fire/Water. In this powerful work, Pindell recounts personal anecdotes and anthropological and historical data related to lynchings and racist attacks in the United States.
WE ARE ASKING ALL PARTICIPANTS TO WEAR MAKS.
