2015 WOW Conference Workshop Proposal Form
Women’s Ordination Worldwide (WOW) invites you to submit a workshop proposal for the 2015 WOW International Conference: "Gender, Gospel, and Global Justice," to be held in Philadelphia, PA from September 18-20, 2015 at the Philadelphia Downtown Marriott.
We anticipate three types or “tracks” of workshops addressing the above issues through a multicultural, international, and intersectional lens. Here are just some examples...
Gender:
- "Theology of the Body"
- in Persona Christi
- One Bread, One Body
- Sexual Ethics
Gospel:
- Marian thought
- Restoration of the Diaconate
- Early Christian leaders
- Liturgical translations
Global Justice:
- Women in Conflict areas
- The charism of the sisterhood
- Feminist liberation theology
- Ending violence against women
Workshops should be timely and include an action component so that in addition to identifying the problem, you also discuss challenges and propose solutions. Each workshop should also suggest efforts that activists and organizers can take in their local communities to increase awareness and/or push for change. We will accept proposals until April 15, 2015.
Instructions
Please complete the proposal submission form, being mindful that your workshop panel needs to have a component reflecting a diversity of voices, including diversity of race/ethnicity, nationality, age, sexual orientation, ability and wealth/income status.
In order for your workshop proposal to be complete, please:
1. Have a recommendation or idea for at least one co-presenter. This does not have to be confirmed, just an idea.
2. Workshop proposals that are incomplete cannot be considered. WOW may need to combine similar workshop proposals and will check with each coordinator beforehand.
3. Workshops will take place on Saturday at 11-11:45 AM and afternoon from 4:15-5 PM, so please indicate which times you and your other panelists are able to be present. Although we are unable to promise a specific time slot, if your workshop is accepted, we will do our best to accommodate your schedule.
4. Travel: We regret that WOW is not able to pay travel or room expenses for workshop presenters. Workshop presenters must register for the conference and will be given a free exhibit booth (Saving $200) to sell books or share materials, if desired.
5. Handouts: Information tables will be located in the workshop rooms to display your information. Please bring enough materials to distribute to a minimum of 100 participants, and prepare at least 5 large print handouts for participants with visual impairments.
6. Technology: WOW will provide microphones in all workshop rooms, however access to LCD projectors is limited. Please include in your proposal a list of all the pieces of equipment you want us to consider providing, so we can attempt to meet your request.
