2019-2020 Allen High School Colorguard Audition Information Packet

Colorguard Prospective Meeting:
The 2019-2020 Prospective Meeting is for all students and parents/guardians interested in becoming apart of the colorguard program. On this night we will discuss all of the financial and schedule requirements for colorguard.

Audition Week:
Auditions will begin promptly at 4:30 pm every day at the Allen High School Band Hall. During this week you will learn the basics in dance technique/fundamentals as well as the basics in flag technique/fundamentals. During this time you will learn a dance audition routine and a flag audition routine.

Audition Day is Friday, February 22, 2019 at Allen High School Band starting at 4:30 pm!

Clothing:
Students will need to wear comfortable clothing that will allow their bodies to move freely. We will be doing dance fundamentals and choreography throughout the clinics and audition week so it is essential the students not be bound by tight clothing. Shorts and tops must meet school dress code for a PE Class.

Attendance:
Attendance to clinics and audition week are vital to your success for auditions. Missing days will put you behind the rest of the group. Students must attend all 3 days to be considered for the 2019-2020 Colorguard. Once accepted into the colorguard program, attendance to all practices/performances are mandatory. Attendance and punctuality will be evaluated during these times.

Work Ethic and Participation:
Each student will be evaluated based on their work ethic and participation at all clinics. No one expects perfection; we only expect determination and hard work. We want to see how each student works to achieve the choreography taught to them.

Discipline/Academic Records:
School discipline records, grades, attendance records and teacher evaluations of each student trying out for colorguard will be checked. Students must attach a copy of their most recent Report Card with their Audition Application.

Winterguard:
Colorguard is a full year commitment. Upon acceptance into the 2019-2020 Colorguard Program students will receive information on upcoming rehearsals and summer rehearsals. After the fall semester is over, students will begin training and learning for the spring semester. In the spring semesters, we participate in Winterguard. Winterguard is indoor colorguard that competes at multiple competitions in the spring. It is required to be in both Colorguard and Winterguard upon acceptance as it is a full year commitment.

Ending Thoughts:
Colorguard members are members of the Allen Band Program known as the Escadrille. All members of the Escadrille (Band, Colorguard, Tallenettes) must be model students and leaders with the band and away from the band. The Colorguard functions as a visual component to the Allen Marching Band. Members of this organization are selected through an audition process in the spring of each year. Members are required to audition each year. The colorguard performs at each function with the marching band and all rehearsals.

All rehearsals and performances are mandatory for membership in this group. The members of the Allen High School Marching Band and Colorguard are responsible for the camp and participation fees. In addition, the colorguard members are responsible for the purchase of uniforms, warm up attire, equipment, shoes, under garments, make up, hair/jewelry accessories, and more. Fundraisers are set up to help defray these costs and fees are not due at the same time.

We believe that each member should improve daily through practice. We are firmly convinced that the most successful students are the ones that are improving themselves through regular habits of practice and daily progress. A member must develop a high sense of purpose toward which they are willing to work. They must know right from wrong and to stand for their principles. The Allen High School Band and Colorguard program will be conducted in a manner that will encourage all students to set and achieve goals. You will receive a PE and Fine Arts Credit for participation in Colorguard.
