The BWOPA Young Adult State Leadership Council stands as a pioneering virtual pilot initiative dedicated to nurturing the leadership potential of our emerging young sisters in the realms of government and politics.
This unique "inside track" program transcends conventional textbook learning, providing participants with a profound insight into the practical workings of power and politics. The carefully crafted curriculum aims to empower individuals to adeptly navigate political landscapes, make informed decisions, and instigate meaningful change in their communities and beyond. Rooted in BWOPA's legacy of championing Black women's representation, equity, and social change, this program is both designed and led by the organization.
Comprising four integral parts, the program covers:
- Part 1: Understanding Political Systems and Advocacy
- Part 2: Navigating the Political Landscape
- Part 3: Leadership and Empowerment
- Part 4: Facilitating Change in Your Community
Upon completing this four-part sequence, participants will enrich their toolbox with a comprehensive understanding of power dynamics, political systems, and effective leadership strategies. Our scholar leaders will emerge equipped with the knowledge and skills to actively engage in politics, advocate for change, and contribute meaningfully to their communities.
Graduates of the BWOPA Young Adult State Leadership Council will be encouraged to sustain their involvement in BWOPA's ongoing initiatives, both at the local chapter and statewide levels. Aligning with BWOPA's core advocacy pillars in health, education, criminal justice reform and economic security, this efforts aims to cultivate a network of empowered young leaders dedicated to shaping a better future through continued advocacy and active participation in community development.
