It's official - Umstead Park UCC voted overwhelmingly in favor of becoming a sanctuary congregation on Sunday, September 23. If you would like to assist in providing sanctuary to a person or family in jeopardy of being deported, please complete this form to indicate which volunteer positions you would be willing to fill.

Please indicate which positions you would be interested in helping with and the frequency with which you would be able to volunteer. If you sign up for any of the host volunteer positions, will be required to pass a background check and attend a volunteer training. Once we have someone in sanctuary, you will be asked to sign up for actual volunteer opportunities.

Volunteer Positions Available

Overnight Host - a 10 hour shift from 9:00pm to 7:00am to assist the family if they have any needs. Volunteers will be able to sleep in a nearby room and showers are available for morning use..

Weekday Daytime Host - a 2 or 3 hour shift, Monday through Friday, during the day and early evening to assist the family if they have any needs.

Weekend Daytime Host - a 2 or 3 hour shift, on weekends and holidays, during the day and early evening to assist the family if they have any needs.

Grocery Helper - grocery shop for the family, using their list, and bring items to the church. Volunteers will be reimbursed for what they spend for groceries.

Laundry Helper - take the family's bedding, towels, and dirty clothes home to wash and dry them as needed.

Meal Provider Helper - prepare and bring a meal to church for the family. Depending on the family's wishes, you may be invited to stay and join in the meal with the family.

Errands/Transportation Helper - this would entail running various errands or providing transportation for non-sanctuary family members (e.g., children) as needed.

Translator/Interpreter Helper - if you have second language skills and the individual we are providing sanctuary for is not fluent in English.
