As you know, the Black River Hospital (BRH) sustained catastrophic damage from Hurricane Melissa and many of our doctors have been at work in excess of 72 hours and are unable to leave until they can get relief.
The Jamaica Defense Force (JDF) is working assiduously to create a through way to BRH.
We are URGENTLY seeking volunteers to work in 24-48 hour shifts at BRH, to begin as early as Thursday October 30, 2025, safe passage dependent. BRH is without electricity so you will be working between the hospital or tents. Should you do an overnight shift you will be sleeping in tents.
This effort is being coordinated with the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) and names will be shared with them.
If you are unable to volunteer at BRH but willing to offer your services at another location please indicate so at the end of the form.
Of note, should you elect to volunteer this should not conflict with your work obligations at your existing institution.
Thank you for offering your service.
-Dr. Mindi Fitz-Henley, President Elect-MAJ, Immediate Past President JMDA.
