Alumni Residency Program

Purpose

The Department of Art and Design Alumni Residency Program at UCA is designed to bring degree-holding alumni back to the University each semester to re-engage in goal driven, intensive on-campus studio and research work in conjunction with the UCA Department of Art and Design.

About the Residency

The residency is supported by the Windgate Foundation and aims to deliver a robust residency experience to support recent alumni of the Department of Art and Design program who would prosper from access to the department’s facilities and equipment in pursuit of specific artistic endeavors and professional aspirations. The residency offers an opportunity to grow as an artist and to make a body of work that strengthens portfolios to be used for graduate school, fellowships, exhibitions and job applications. Alumni who graduated with a B.F.A. in Studio Art, or a BA in Art with a Fine Art or Art Ed emphasis are eligible to apply.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the UCA Windgate Alumni Residency Program, applicants must
have graduated from the UCA Department of Art and Design with a B.F.A. in Studio Art, or a BA in Art with a Fine Art or Art Ed emphasis. Preference will be given to graduates within five years post graduation, but up to ten years post graduation will be considered. Alumni working in all media are eligible to apply.

UCA dedicates itself to academic vitality, integrity, and diversity and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion (creed), gender, gender expression, age, national origin (ancestry), disability, marital status, sexual orientation, or military status, in any of its activities or operations.

Dates & Length

The UCA Windgate Alumni Residency Program is a semester-long program offered once per academic year in either the Spring or Fall semester based on the residents preference upon application.

● Fall Residency Dates: Beginning of Fall Semester - End of Fall Semester

Spring Residency Dates: Beginning of Spring Semester - End of Spring Semester

Location, Facilities, & Resources

The Department of Art and Design resides in the beautiful Windgate Center for the Fine and Performing Arts. Facilities to be used during the residency will be tied to the department's offerings and the creative and intellectual interests of the Resident.

Stipends & Expenses

Resident artists receive up to a maximum of $6,500 to be used for room and board, studio material expenses, and all travel expenses. Actual amount of stipend allowance (up to a total of $6,500) will be determined upon review of application.

Opportunities & Requirements

  • Residents are required to work in the department studio areas and be present in the studio to allow undergraduate students the opportunity to interact with them as they work.
  • Residents will be required to present an introductory and an exiting artist talk open to the public.
  • Residents will be required to exhibit work created during the residency in the Windgate Gallery, or a local and accessible exhibition space of the resident’s choosing.
  • Residents are required to give a workshop/process demonstration at UCA
  • Residents are required to do one community outreach/engagement project for a public highschool in Arkansas or similar institution with departmental approval.

Failure to meet the above requirements will result in the resident refunding, in part or in full, the award amount. Refund amount will be determined upon review.
