Londoner Checkers Battle 2024 倫敦波子彈跳棋王大賽
The game "Londoner Checkers", is based on the game "Chinese Checkers", which is a game invented after "Halma". The game rules are slightly different than the original Halma but also not far from it. The battle will be played with "Chinese Checkers" rules but not the exact same as Halma. Please check this page for its instruction. Wenn Sie auf Deutsch wechseln möchten, füllen Sie bitte stattdessen dieses Formular aus. 中文翻譯表格在此

Origin
"Chinese checkers", originally known as Halma (Greek "jump"), was invented between 1883 and 1884 by George Howard Monks, an American thoracic surgeon at Harvard Medical School. The original board was square with 256 grids. The goal and rules of Halma are similar to the current Chinese checkers. Not long later someone changed it to a star-shaped chessboard, which was patented by a German company Ravensburger and called Stern-Halma. It became popular in the United States in the 1930s and changed the name of "Chinese Checkers". When this kind of chess was introduced to China and Hong Kong, it was called "marble / glass ball chess" (German "Murmel", Cantonese "波子"). In fact, Chinese Checkers did not originate in China.

Londoner Checkers Battle
"Londoner Checkers Battle" aims to bring those good Chinese Checkers / Halma players together during the "Get Go Game" exhibition as part of the art program. The first time of the exhibition was curated by one of the founders of an non-profit organization "Ngo Dei", Loretta Lau and together with the Berlin-based Hong Kong artist Friendly Liu. It started in Prague, Czech republic in 2021. Friendly Liu redesigned 10 games from her childhood and turn them as artworks, showed them to the public and let the audience play with them. One of the 10 games was this "Chinese Checkers", she created a version that allows 12 players to play (usually for 6 players). Intended to support the rarely existing art of woodworking in Hong Kong, Friendly did the 2nd edition of the game "Hong Konger Checkers" together with her friend Dom, the founder of StartFromZero in Hong Kong, short before the "Get Go Games" exhibition in Hong Kong, 2022. In the coming exhibition, Friendly will show this "Hong Konger Checkers" version and the 4th edition of the game to the audience.
