GWISE Implicit Bias & Diversity Workshop 2016
Date and Time: Monday, May 23 from 4:30pm-6:30pm
Location: 24 Cummington Mall (LSEB), Room 103
Join GWISE on May 23 for an informative Implicit Bias & Diversity Workshop led by Dr. Joanne Kamens. The concept of Implicit Bias arose as a way to explain why discrimination in all forms persists, even though extensive research clearly shows that people oppose it. Awareness of how bias plays a role in the workplace will help navigation of the resulting pitfalls.
Dr. Joanne Kamens is the Executive Director at Addgene. Throughout her established scientific and corporate career, Joanne has been a recognized leader in diversity and outreach, dedicated to empowering women and underrepresented groups and advocating for inclusion in STEM fields. She has served as an Advisory Board member for many diversity-oriented STEM career groups, and regularly trains scientists about implicit bias, diversity, and gendered communication in the workplace.
This workshop will be a provocative one, presenting this concept with examples, supporting data, activities, and calls to action. GWISE and WISEguys members are highly encouraged to attend! Refreshments will be provided. If possible, please bring along a copy of your resume or LinkedIn profile.
