Welcome to The Colorado Sun's 2022 Rise and Shine Journalism Workshop. This year, the free, five-day virtual workshop will be held the mornings of July 18 — July 22.
The goal of the program is to encourage young Coloradans to pursue future careers in journalism and media, especially students from underrepresented backgrounds, such as BIPOC and/or LGBTQ+ youth, rural and those who would be first-generation college students.
Participants will learn from professional journalists about different paths and options for pursuing a journalism career and transferring good writing, artistic, business and digital skills into good news-making. Participants also will learn about the different ethical and professional responsibilities of being a journalist.
This year, the workshop is open to 25 students who meet the following criteria:
— Live in Colorado
— Will be in middle or high school in the fall
— Have an interest in journalism or media
Applicants from underrepresented and diverse communities are highly encouraged to apply. The Colorado Sun will provide assistance to students who may have difficulties accessing a computer or device and reliable internet connection.
The following application is due by 6 p.m. June 22. This form will no longer accept responses after that time. Participants will be notified by July 1.
