LiveWell Peer Support Group Facilitator - application (2024)
PLEASE READ PRIOR TO COMPLETING THE BELOW FORM:

We are delighted to hear of your interest in the position of a Volunteer Support Group Facilitator at LiveWell
Our one-of-a-kind, peer-led depression support program has positively impacted thousands of people's lives because of peers with big hearts like you!

Here are the minimum requirements for being considered for this volunteer role:
  • Stable internet connection (for connecting to zoom support groups)
  • Aged 21+
  • Lived experience of depression and resilience (no diagnosis necessary)
  • A desire to support, empower, and inspire others to live well with depression
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to work as part of a team (e.g., respond to peer feedback)
  • The ability to make a one-year commitment to facilitate a 1.5-hour online support group twice a month --- although substitute facilitators are provided for illness, vacations, etc.
  • A willingness to attend an all-day (7-8 hour) training session via zoom
  • A willingness to have attended at least four virtual LiveWell support groups (prior to participating in above training)
  • If requested, a willingness to have an approximately 30-minute informal zoom conversation with a LiveWell Foundation staff or Board member before participating in the training
  • A willingness to attend two, all-facilitator meetings per year via zoom (for continuing education)
  • A background in psychology/sociology or experience running a group of any kind is preferred, but not required (e.g., support group, club, community or religious group, sports team, in your career, etc.)
If ALL of the above apply to you, then please complete the entire form below.

***** Please keep in mind that because the number of applicants usually exceeds the number of open slots available for new peer facilitators, we cannot guarantee your application will result in a position. Decisions are often made on scheduling/availability and other factors -- so if you are not chosen, it is by no means a determination of your worth or our belief in your potential to be a good peer support group facilitator. And thank you for your understanding.

We will reply to all applications submitted; but it may take a month or more. Thank you for your patience.

Occasionally, support group facilitators will have to interact with a peer in crisis or having suicidal ideation. ***How to handle this will be addressed in the training, and a script will be provided for you to read aloud in a group should the occasion arise.

Still, it is best to think about this in advance. In your experience or opinion, how might you be in response to a peer who is in crisis or expressing suicidal thoughts? (Check the box that best describes your answer.)
