Maud Sulter Project Assistant Application
We are looking for a Project Assistant to work across our upcoming Maud Sulter project, working collaboratively with the Committee and project lead as we begin to plan a programme of events, publication and exhibition.
Alongside the programming role, we are including a fee and materials budget for the successful applicant to use to develop their own artistic practice in a way that feels relevant to them.
There is room within the Project Assistant role to expand upon your interests, and get involved in Rhubaba’s other ongoing projects, which are engaged in Diasporic Histories, Frequencies, and Food. Rhubaba takes a conversational and collaborative approach to creative work, this theme overflows into our programming, publishing of works, choir group, and online activity.
The candidate must identify as Black* and consider themselves to be an Early Career Artist, with an interest in Programming/Arts Administration looking to develop a practice within the visual arts sector to assist on this project. No prior experience needed in producing a project needed - we are especially interested in hearing from people who have not had similar opportunities before. We are open to applications from students.
Although we are working remotely at the moment, the applicant must be based in Edinburgh/Lothians.

Rhubaba Gallery and Studios is an artist-run organisation in Edinburgh, located just off Leith Walk. Providing studio space for twenty-two alongside a programme of exhibitions and events, since establishment in 2009 it has been a space dedicated to the dual production and presentation of contemporary art.
We are committed to generating a supportive workspace and a dynamic platform for local and international artists. Rhubaba aims to give early-career artists, new entrants, and graduates the opportunity to produce new work in a discursive environment, work collaboratively with other artist-led initiatives and explore wider debates in contemporary art, as to bringing exciting and challenging works to Scotland.
