Alternative Breaks Participant Application: Spring 2017
Alternative Breaks (AB) Participants attend a one-week, service-learning trip to one of three destinations with a social issue focus. Spring break trips are: New Orleans (Systemic Racism), South Texas (Immigration Justice), San Francisco (LGBTQ+ Advocacy), Austin, TX (Keep Austin Gentrified?). Service-learning involves direct action and consistent reflection to continuously learn through an immersive service experience.

If accepted, participants agree to abide by all UT and AB policies and procedures, and uphold the five core values of AB: Learning, Community, Service, Simplicity and Active Citizenship. Additionally, by applying applicants acknowledge that if invited, they agree to attend the Group Interview on 10/18, understand the trip fee, and will attend scheduled fundraising activities and meetings.

- Applications must be submitted by 11:59 PM on FRIDAY, October 9th (EXTENDED DEADLINE).

- Selected finalists will be notified by Wednesday, October 14th of the invitation to attend the Group Interview on Sunday, Oct. 18th. Those selected as AB Participants following the Interview will be notified by Wednesday, October 21st.

- Selected AB Participants must attend the Participant Orientation on Sunday, November 8th and Fundraising meeting on Sunday, November 15th.

- Total program cost per person to attend is:
  ---- New Orleans, LA: Systemic Racism- Spring Break March 11th-18th: $300
  ---- South Texas: The State of Immigration- Spring Break March 11th-18th: $275
  ---- San Francisco, CA: LGBTQ+ Advocacy- Spring Break March 11th-18th: $675
  ---- Austin, TX: Keep Austin Gentrified? (For First-Year Student Only)- Spring Break March 11th-18th: $200


If accepted as an AB Participant, a $50 non-refundable deposit counting toward this cost must be made by Wednesday, November 4th at 4:00 PM via money order, cashier's check or personal checks (no cash). Payment must be made out to "UT-Austin", and delivered to Hali Hoyt, Program Coordinator, in the LCCE, office 4.424 on the 4th floor of the SSB (Student Services Building).

-Individual fundraising training and events will aim to offset costs for each participant.

- Information sessions will be held in SSB 3.406 on both Tuesday, Sept. 29, 1:00-2:00 PM and Wednesday, Sept. 30, 5:00-6:00 PM.
