The VIP Summer Program will
be held at Poe Middle School this summer! Rising 6th*, 7th
and 8th graders residing in the Fairfax County boundaries for the following middle
schools are invited to register: Poe*, Glasgow*, Holmes*, Luther Jackson, Kilmer & Thoreau.
Program Details:
Mondays - Fridays, 9 am - 4 pm (site is
available at 8 am for drop-offs)
Tuesday, July 1 - Thursday, July 31 (no camp
on July 4)
Space in VIP is limited. Though timing of
registration is a factor, it is not solely a first come, first serve acceptance
process. We consider a variety of factors when processing applications to
provide a balanced camp (such as, but not limited to: number of participants
per middle school, grade level, registration timing, participant availability,
etc.). An email notification of acceptance status will be sent by June 6.
Program paperwork and payment procedures will be reviewed in the email of
acceptance. All camp paperwork and payments will be due after receiving confirmation of acceptance. We will offer rolling admission from a waitlist as campers drop out
or fail to enroll. You will be notified as space becomes available.
VIP camp costs $100 to attend (scholarships
are available in cases of financial hardship - reach out to your school's
After-School Specialist). Families will be notified about payment
procedures in their acceptance email. All payments will be accepted from May 23 until June 6. Participants who have not paid by that
time will be removed from the list and we will offer the spot to the next
student on our waitlist.
Field Trips - We will take approximately 3-4 field trips throughout the summer. There is a cost for students to attend
the field trips. The field trip fees will cover admission costs and bus
transportation. Field trip information (dates, locations, and fees) will
be available by the parent/guardian meeting on May 28th. The field trip
fees need to be paid for in cash. Fees will be
collected in advance and will not be accepted the day of the trip. To
maintain safe staff to student ratios, we will send all staff members on the
field trips and none will remain at the VIP site. If your student chooses
not to attend a field trip, please make alternate plans as sites will be closed
that day. Please speak with your After-School Specialist if financial
assistance is required.
Review the VIP Registration document (https://poems.fcps.edu/announcements/vip-summer-program) with all
policies and procedures prior to completing this registration form. The
registration document is posted on the after-school sections of the middle
school website.

Reasonable accommodations and/or modifications will be made to afford eligible students with disabilities meaningful access to the array of group activities offered to program participants. All participants are encouraged to submit applications by Wednesday, May 28th. Once an applicant has been accepted, the parent/guardian of a student with disabilities must contact the after-school program specialist at their middle school and provide complete information about the student’s disability at least three weeks prior to the beginning of camp so that a determination can then be made as to whether the student can be reasonably accommodated. These are site-based informed decisions made after consultation with special education teachers, after-school program specialists, NCS center directors and Therapeutic Recreation Services. All determinations will be made on an individual basis, with the success of the participant in mind.
Camp Days and Hours: VIP Camps will run on Mondays – Fridays from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm from Tuesday, July 1– Thursday, July 31.
