Most of the river sections we run require a government permit with specific launch dates. GCY does our best to acquire a river permit that works for your schedule. Our ability to get specific launch dates vary by river section. We start the permitting process early, and maintain good relationships with other outfitters; however, when trades are not possible you may be asked for flexibility within your schedule. Having multiple options available helps us secure a permit that works for everyone! Please consider one travel day before and after your program if you are coming from out of town.
When is your first choice launch date?
When is your second choice launch date?
When is your third choice launch date?
Do you need GCY to provide transportation (vehicles & drivers) for this program, or will your organization be providing transportation?
We will provide transportation for this river program (meeting GCY staff at the river)
We will need GCY to provide transportation for this river program (meeting GCY staff in Flagstaff)
We will need GCY to provide transportation both from the airport (PHX or FLG), and to / from the river program
I am not sure yet
A pre-trip requirement for GCY programs is providing youth with the opportunity to 'buy into' the program through fundraising. What do you think your capacity for fundraising is?
We have a lot of experience fundraising and feel confident in our abilities
We have done a little fundraising in the past, but this would be a new endeavor
We are open to the idea of fundraising, but don't have any experience
We live in an area or serve a demographic that has little to no capacity for fundraising
Based on what you know about your group, what is your sense of your program's financial need?
Generally speaking, students and families will not have difficulties fundraising and paying for their GCY program
I can think of a few students who may need opportunities for Financial Aid, but the rest will likely be able to fundraise and pay without problems
Roughly half of the students will need opportunities for Financial Aid
The majority of students will need opportunities for Financial Aid
My sense is, if we do not fundraise successfully, receive grants, or other financial support, the likelihood of this trip happening is very slim
About what percentage of students at your school qualify for free and reduced lunch?
Which of these Program Themes do you think might be a good fit for your curriculum or other goals?
Astronomy & Night Skies
Creative Writing (poetry, journaling, etc.)
Environmental Advocacy & Climate Change
Hydrology (dam management, water physics, water quality, etc.)
Land Use & Management
Mapping & Orienteering
Natural Ecology (invasive species, desert adaptations, flora & fauna, human impacts, environmental stressors, etc.)
Peoples of the Past & Present (archaeology, human history, indigenous cultures, etc.)
Performing Art (music, dance, song, etc.)
STEM (science, technology, engineering, math)
Teamwork & Leadership
Visual Art (watercolors, painting, sketching, photography, videography, etc.)
Watersheds & River Basins
Wilderness Ethics (including Leave No Trace)
None of these would interest my group, I would like to create my own!
Thank you! We look forward to seeing you on expedition in 2019!
